Whoever made it back to their original sheet of paper first won. Then I read prompts over the microphone and every time one of the guests had done the prompt, they stepped ahead to the next sheet. I put pieces colored construction paper on the floor in a circle and had each guest stand on one sheet of paper. Never Have I Ever at a large 21st birthdayĭuring my 21st birthday party I had over 80 attendees that each only knew about 20 people (max) there. The question was, “if your dad has a beard” and I genuinely couldn’t figure out the answer. Fun fact: I once couldn’t figure it out if my dad had a beard or not. If the prompt applied to the dancer, she would have to sit down. During this party, we would play a version of Never Have I Ever where everybody started the game standing up, then the dance teacher would read prompts that she pulled out of a bowl. The dance school I attended, starting in middle school, had a Christmas party every year for all 200 dancers, ages 3 to 18. Never Have I Ever at a large party for kids It was a good way to get people moving and to meet new people from down the hall. My residents walked up and down the hall writing their names on the sheets where they had done the whatever the sheet prompted. When I was an RA I once wrote the Never Have I Ever prompts on sheets of paper and taped them to the hallway of our floor. Here are just a few I can think of: Never Have I Ever as an RA Throughout my life, the game of Never Have I Ever has come up in multiple ways. The prompts that you use during the game can be adjusted to fit any age or demographic.Įxamples of how to use Never Have I Ever Questions: It can be used for teenagers at a slumber party, it can be used for kids during a school function, it can be used for twenty-somethings as a drinking game, it can be used at a corporate event, and more. Something like never have I ever is fast-paced enough that people stay engaged. Sometimes when you’re playing ice breaker games people can get bored. There are a lot of ice breaker games out there to choose from, but there are two qualities this one has that make it wonderful: Benefits of Never Have I Ever as an Ice Breaker. If you’re (a) trying to keep control of the direction the game is heading, or (b) trying to keep the pace moving quickly, it’s better for the host to come up with a list of prompts, at least to start the game off to get things rolling. You can see how letting guests come up with their own Never Have I Evers adds an element of unknown to the game, which can be fun, but not always. This action could be anything from have a sip of your beverage, to eat an M&M, to put up a finger, to take a step forward – essentially, you’re looking for any visible sign to let the rest of the group know that you have actually done whatever the prompt is (whether you’re embarrassed by it or not). Essentially, there are Never Have I Ever prompts, which either the host writes down ahead of time or the guests come up with on the spot and one person reads the prompt and anybody who has done the prompt needs to complete an action. There’s a chance that you have heard of Never Have I Ever in the context of a drinking game, but it is good for so many more things than that – especially an ice breaker for large groups of people who haven’t met each other before. One of those games is “Never Have I Ever,” arguably, my favorite ice breaker game of all time. Over the years I’ve narrowed down my usual list to my top 5 ice breaker games. I find that it makes things less awkward (since everybody is playing) and gives everybody some common ground to start on (even if that common ground is – wow, Chrystina really needs to get a new hobby). They’re my favorite way to introduce people to each other at a party. Something that you may know about me if you’ve been reading my blog for a long time is that I love ice breaker games.

Thomson’s experiments with cathode rays led to the discovery of the electron, the first subatomic particle to be discovered. In the year 1897, the English physicist J.J. Arthur Schuster and William Crooks proved that cathode rays are deflected by electric and magnetic fields, respectively. Crookes tubes are partially vacuum tubes having two electrodes kept at a high potential difference to discharge cathode rays from the negatively charged electrode cathode. The electrons are steered by deflection coils or plates, and an anode accelerates them towards the phosphor-coated screen, which generates light when hit by the electrons. The eminent physicist Johann Hittorf discovered cathode rays in 1869 in Crookes tubes. Ī CRT works by electrically heating a tungsten coil which in turn heats a cathode in the rear of the CRT, causing it to emit electrons which are modulated and focused by electrodes. Flat-panel displays can also be made in very large sizes whereas 40 in (100 cm) to 45 in (110 cm) was about the largest size of a CRT. Since the mid-late 2000's, CRTs have been superseded by flat-panel display technologies such as LCD, plasma display, and OLED displays which are cheaper to manufacture and run, as well as significantly lighter and less bulky. CRTs make up most of the weight of CRT TVs and computer monitors. The face is typically made of thick lead glass or special barium-strontium glass to be shatter-resistant and to block most X-ray emissions. As such, handling a CRT carries the risk of violent implosion that can hurl glass at great velocity. The interior is evacuated to 0.01 pascals (1 × 10 −7 atm) to 0.1 micropascals (1 × 10 −12 atm) or less, to facilitate the free flight of electrons from the gun(s) to the tube's face without scattering due to collisions with air molecules. Electrostatic deflection is commonly used in oscilloscopes. In modern CRT monitors and televisions the beams are bent by magnetic deflection, using a deflection yoke. In color devices, an image is produced by controlling the intensity of each of three electron beams, one for each additive primary color (red, green, and blue) with a video signal as a reference. In CRT television sets and computer monitors, the entire front area of the tube is scanned repeatedly and systematically in a fixed pattern called a raster. The only visible differences are the single electron gun, the uniform white phosphor coating, and the lack of a shadow mask.
Keep it simple: letters, numbers, or your horoscope sign. Something that requires shading or color is not suggested for the finger. In short, Gemini tattoos are the perfect go-to tattoo for you to convey the unique nature of your constitution. Keeping the history of Gemini in mind, it’s no wonder that Gemini tattoos have come to represent both a complex, paradoxical nature known for its devotion. Zeus agreed and the two brothers thus formed the Gemini constellation. When Castor was killed, Pollux pleaded with Zeus to allow him to share his immortality with his dead twin to save him. Though the twins shared the same birth mother, Castor’s father was a mortal named Tyndareus while Pollux’s father was the god Zeus–hence Castor was a mortal, but Pollux was immortal. In Greek mythology, Gemini is represented by twin brothers Castor and Pollux. This easy to personalize tattoo is the exemplar of artistry and depth as far as ink goes.Īstrologically, Gemini is the third zodiac sign, starting on the 21st of May and ending on the 21st of June. In that way a Gemini tattoo can at once represent a character that is both introverted and extroverted, intellectual and childish. Gemini is one of the three masculine air signs and is symbolized by twins. Gemini tattoo are the ultimate embodiment of a mutable dual nature. Nowhere in the standard is it required for the teacher to use place value language (as Walle and Lovin discourage) but to make representations of the teen numbers using objects and drawings. According to the standard, children should compose and decompose a number in the teens into a group of tens and some ones. Let's dissect this standard to figure out exactly what it is and what it is not asking you to evaluate. The following standard requires unitizing:Ĭ.NBT.A.1 Compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into ten ones and some further ones, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each composition or decomposition by a drawing or equation (such as 18 = 10 + 8) understand that these numbers are composed of ten ones and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones. In kindergarten, the goal is not to formalize unitizing, but to begin to help students see numbers in groupings. The inappropriateness of discussing "one ten and six ones" (what's a one?) does not mean that a set of ten should not figure prominently in the discussion of the teen numbers" (Walle and Lovin 2006). Some would say that it is not appropriate for grade 1 at all. The concept of a single ten is just too strange for a kindergarten or an early first grade child to grasp. That is, prior to a much more complete development of place-value concepts (appropriate for second grade and beyond), children should not be asked to explain the 1 in 16 as representing "one ten". However, the numbers between 10 and 20 are not an appropriate place to discuss place-value concepts. When children see a set of six with a set of ten, they should know without counting that the total is 16. Grouping numbers into tens is especially significant, because "A set of ten should play a major role in children's initial understanding of numbers between 10 and 20. It is an ability they use to see that there is simultaneously 1 chair with 4 legs, to count by 2's with understanding, to hold one number in their head when counting on, or to begin grouping numbers into tens. Unitizing is a child's ability to see numbers in groups.

"Phylogeny and Systematics of Estrildine Finches and Their Relationships to Other Seed-eating Passerines". "Biochemical systematics within palaeotropic finches (Aves: Estrildidae)". Researchers are exploring analogies between human language and birdsong. Female zebra finches show a preference for mates with a dialect similar to the one of their adolescent peers. Research also shows that zebra finches hear and respond to variations in bird song that are not apparent to human listeners. There is evidence that some aspects of this are culturally transmitted and that the songs of geographically distant populations can change over time, resulting in new dialects. They are one of the bird species that is able to learn new vocalizations and have become a dominant model species in the study of vocal learning. Zebra finches are more social than many migratory birds, generally traveling in small bands and sometimes gathering in larger groups. Īlthough the Sunda zebra finch was described first, the Australian zebra finch is the far more famous member of the genus, due to its status as a popular pet as well as a model organism for the wider study of birds. guttata males do not have the fine barring found on the throat and upper breast and have smaller breast bands. The morphological differences between the species include differences in size. castanotis swept out to sea by cyclones to see mountains near the west coast of Timor, which prompted them to make landfall on the island. guttata is likely due to a Pleistocene glaciation event where the sea level dropped between about 100 and 150 metres (330 and 490 ft), putting the coasts of Timor and Australia closer. The present-day distribution of the species T. The zebra finches likely evolved in Australia, with either northern or southeastern Australia postulated as two places where the genus arose. It is placed in the tribe Poephilini, along with the genus Poephila, which it was previously included in the split between Taeniopygia and Poephila is justified by a 1987 study using protein electrophoresis and chromosomal banding. Its current genus, Taeniopygia, was described in 1862 by Ludwig Reichenbach. The Australian species was then described in 1837 by John Gould as Amadina castanotis. The Indonesian species was described in 1817 by Louis Jean Pierre Vieillot in his Nouveau Dictionnaire d'Histoire Naturelle, where he gave it the scientific name Fringilla guttata. The zebra finch was first captured in 1801 during Nicolas Baudin's expedition to Australia. The International Ornithological Congress followed suit in 2022 based on studies noting differences in plumage, mtDNA divergence, and assortative mating between both species in captivity. However, they were split by the IUCN Red List and BirdLife International in 2016. Previously, both species were classified as a single species, the zebra finch ( T.
